Sleepy time and bedtime stories...

So, we're finally getting Rachel back into her normal sleeping rhythm after a week with 3(!!!) new teeth and a nasty cold on top of it all. She was pretty miserable for this past week and had the most pathetically hoarse little cry that made you just never want to stop cuddling her, but she's on the mend now and life is getting back to normal.

Babies love repetition, right? So we have our whole routine of bathtime, changing into jammies, reading stories, saying goodnight (which now includes waving bye-bye -- it's hilarious!) to all her little stuffed friends, turning off the lights, and singing a couple songs before settling into her crib. She's really adorable about it all, and as soon as those lights go off, she lays her head on my (or Andrew's) shoulder and gives a big sigh -- like she's saying "finally!" Now that she's feeling better, she's been getting a little antsy and starting to reach for the crib before the song is even over. Apparently I need to pick shorter songs!

As much as she loves the actual crib part (most of the time), by far her favorite part of the whole routine is the story time. This little lady LOVES books--just like her mama! We've graduated from just wanting to eat them, and now she picks out her own book each night (she has strong preferences that change every night, and she'll toss it aside if we get the wrong one) and turns all the pages. She is even now insisting on holding the books herself. She has such an independent streak coming through--I have no idea where she gets it from!!

Anyway, it seems like there are so many great kid books out there and we all have our favorites, so I thought I'd see if any of you have good book recommendations for little ones. Send me your suggestions!!! Personally, I'm a big fan of Sandra Boynton's books -- especially "It's Pajama Time" (which I can never seem to get out of my head) and "Moo Baa LaLaLa" (which has the cutest ending).

And for inspiration, here's our little book lover focusing intently on one of her favorites....

I love Sandra Boyton's books and they all get stuck in my head too! We don't have pajama time (although I think we need to get it) but we do have Moo Baa LaLaLa and the Goodnight Book. I don't recommend "What's Wrong Pookie Bear" - that's my least favorite and Marc does not like it! We read lots of the oldie but goodies - The Hungry Caterpillar, Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear, The Carrot Seed, etc. but Marc really isn't into books much so usually it's me reading to no one. If you find any more favorites let me know.

I miss that munchkin! Blueberries for Sal is one of my favorites. I'm a bit out of touch with the children's book thing. I love that you're blogging more so we can see what you guys are up to!

So great to see your adoreable little girl! I knew you guys would be great parents!! It sounds like you are truly enjoying her. One of my favorite bedtime books is "Love you Forever". I think that's what it's called. But warning: It's a tear-jerker!=) Call us sometime, we would love to hear from you.

I love a baby who loves bedtime stories. Mostly because it gives me an excuse to read them. Your baby is such a doll!

My kids love Golf Digest, although I will say that my friend at work gave Marc "Moo Baa LaLaLa" and he loved it so much that he used to grab it off his shelf, bring it to me, and climb on my lap.

I love that Marcus's kids like "Golf Digest"! That's a crack up. I'm actually suprised Mike hasn't tried reading something like that to Sam yet.
Anyway, Rachel is adorable, as I'm sure you're very aware, and don't you just LOVE that she loves books? I was so excited when Sam finally picked up on my passion for books.
Here are some of our favorites:
"I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Track" by Joshua Prince (Not very popular, but Sam requests it almost every time we got to the library.)
We also like the "How do Dinosaurs..." books by Jane Yolen. There are lots of these, and Sam loves all of them. His most favorite are "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight" and "How Do Dinosaurs Get Well". He also loves "The Lorax" by Dr. Suess, but you might want to wait a little while for that one. I tried before he was two and he just didn't get it.
You guys are such great parents!!! How is Rachel by the way? Any news on her leg?

Congrats on baby #2. I'm insanely jealous you didn't realize it for such a long time!!! We are book-aholics at our house--Lucas has a bunch of them memorized. Its fun! A few--Pinkalicious, love How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight, Where the Wild Things Are, Dinosaur Roar (even little girls like these books, I'm sure of it!) A few others--Click, Clack, Moo--Cows that Type, Ferdinand the Bull, I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean, Giraffes Can't Dance, Knuffle Bunny, etc... I always have new favorite ones. One that is a little bit older is The Incredible Book Eating Boy...
